Miles Garrett 2024 Zinfandel
Grape
Zinfandel
Region
Willow Creek, California
Producer Facts
The winery says its wines are dry farmed and undergo native-yeast fermentation with zero added sulfur. That's unusually hands-off even by natural-wine standards.
Soil
Rocky mountain soil
Farming practices
Organic & indigenous yeast
Wine
Juicy blackberry, raspberry and dark cherry with brambly fruit, cracked pepper, dried herbs and a little earthy spice. Medium-bodied with fresh acidity, moderate tannin and a savory finish. The style is fresher and less jammy than many California Zinfandels.
Pairing
Best with grilled meats, burgers, BBQ ribs, sausage, pizza, tomato-based pasta, pulled pork, or aged cheddar. The fruit works with smoky/sweet flavors, while the acidity keeps richer dishes from feeling heavy. Zinfandel is also commonly paired with beef, lamb and poultry.
Cape Wine Company 2023 Nieuwe Haarlem
Grape
100% Chenin Blanc
Region
Coastal Region, South Africa
Producer Facts The wine is named after the Nieuwe Haarlem, a Dutch East India Company ship that ran aground near Table Bay in 1647. Its stranded crew grew vegetables, traded locally and reportedly planted vines; their experience helped lead to the establishment of the Cape refreshment station in 1652, an important event in the beginnings of South African wine culture.
Soil
Decomposed granite
Farming practices
Organic
Wine
Pale straw in color, with aromas of vanilla and toasted almond layered over ripe pear, quince, yellow apple, and pineapple. The palate is creamy yet fresh, showing juicy pear, apple, peach, lemon curd, and subtle oak spice. A long, elegant finish brings yellow citrus peel and ripe peach, balanced by refreshing acidity.
Pairing
Great with grilled fish, shellfish, sushi, roast chicken, Thai curry, pork, or dishes with light butter or lemon sauces. The combination of fruit, acidity and subtle oak makes it especially versatile with seafood and mildly spicy Asian food.
